Proposed Compromise and Alternative Plans

Several modified plans have been suggested over the past few months to make up for the lack of content that can be taught in semester science courses. A newer plan that meets the goals of the Administration and the Board (and parents too) with regard to NCLB and AYP, as well as the goals of students who have aspirations to make a career out of science, is to direct students to either semester courses or full-year courses depending on how many years of science they plan to take in high school.

For those who know as incoming freshmen they're going to take three or more years of science, they should take full-year courses in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics (preferably but not necessarily in that order). This will give them the breadth and depth they will need to be ready for college.

For those who will only take the minimum two years of high school science, they should take the new semester courses designed give the best breadth that is possible in two years, and will help each school meet NCLB accountability goals.
