Tom Eddy's comment at the February 23 BOE meeting
PPQE has been quietly working behind the scenes trying to encourage PPS to keep full year science courses for those who are interested in going further in science. Since the January 23 BOE meeting, PPS asked us to give them some time to work on some ideas they feel will meet the needs we're concerned about for the college-bound student, and out of respect for that, PPQE maintained a low profile.
At the February 23 BOE meeting, President Tom Eddy had this to say-
The Board and the Administration spent about 35-40 minutes further discussing information relative to the science curriculum. I'd like to let everyone know that the two areas we are taking a look at (and we'll have a response if not before certainly at the next board meeting) do revolve around the implementation schedule for this particular curriculum offering, and also the options that have been discussed with the teams. Just wanted to let everyone know that information will be coming to the public shortly.
So perhaps they're considering the possibility of delaying across-the-board implementation for a year in order to implement a full K-12 plan instead of just a K-10 plan. And perhaps they're considering options such as second semester honors-level courses so future scientists can graduate with full years of each of the three core sciences. Or perhaps they will consider a full-year track for those more serious about science. The next BOE meeting is March 15 and we expect to know of the PPS plans by then. Stay tuned...
