Statement read by Linda Lueth on November 24

As Chair of the Board's Curriculum Committee, I would like to read the following statement:

The Board is supportive of the new curriculum review process; however, we have all learned there are some areas we could improve upon. We have listened to the many concerns of the parents, as well as the input from the review committee and administration. As a Board of Education, we want the best possible options available for all students.

With this being said, the Board of Education sees the need to move forward with the motion on the floor to grant permission for District staff to begin writing the recommended science curriculum. The implementation plan noted in the motion will include the following:

The Board is of the opinion that this is the best way to address parent concerns, as well as provide administration with the opportunity to move ahead.

We are a successful district, with successful students. We want greater success for all students and we believe we can obtain that through many actions, one being curriculum review and revisions.

We would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and input. We are appreciative of the parents that provided feedback during meetings or conversations. We are extremely grateful and supportive to the science curriculum review team, CIC and administrators for their work in this process.

As quoted by Franklin D. Roosevelt: "There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still."
